Program Coordinator - The PULSE
Hello, I'm Mike Gilland! I started my radio days in 1973, working in Evansville, Indiana for a country station. My path included stints as a TV weatherman, a television producer for a large church ministry, and ultimately the operations manager of a Christian FM station before going into full-time ministry. In 1985, we moved to Orlando, FL, where I was the morning guy on the Christian station. In addition to the work in radio, and serving my local church as a worship leader, I have also consistently worked as a voiceover artist. My family and I moved to Gainesville in 2002 to work with a church plant - and now my path has led me to The Pulse!
I look forward to getting to meet you at some of our future concerts and other events!
1. Tell us about your family?
I'm married to Cindy, the love of my life. We met on the road, she was a singer in one band, and I was a guitarist in another. Our groups did a concert together, and love was born! We married in 1976, and have four grown children (Stephanie, David, Angela and Allison, who is a current UF senior) and four grandchildren! (What??!!! I'm too young for that, right??? Answer - uh....no.) My whole family is musical! What a gift that is to Cindy and me...
2. Any hobbies?
In addition to LOVING worship music, I have a serious love for all things guitars, including playing acoustic, electric, bass, mandolin, and - pedal steel guitar. (Yep - you might see me out gigging on the pedal steel!).
3. Favorite foods?
Tough one - but I'll go with grilled chicken, mexican dishes, and my wife's specialty chicken dishes - all of them. Cindy and I are also very fond of popcorn...very fond...
4. Favorite bible verse?
The first verse I ever memorized as a young guy was Romans 6:23 - "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." I could never deserve, or earn, the amazing gift of God's grace and forgiveness. His grace IS amazing.
5. What artist makes you turn it up?
No doubt - my favorite all time artist is Steven Curtis Chapman. I have been a fan for years, loving how his songs have reflected such a biblically accurate view of God. In recent years, I (like everybody else on the planet) have loved and benefitted from Chris Tomlin, Matt Redman, and all those who make up the Passion crew.
